What is a good credit score

A good credit score is generally 670 or above on the common 300 to 850 scale. 740 and up is very good to excellent and unlocks the best rates, while below 670 is considered fair or poor and usually means higher interest and tougher approvals.

What score you need

Most traditional mortgages want at least 620, though a higher score earns a better rate. Many car and personal loans go lower, but you pay far more in interest.

How to climb

Pay on time, lower balances, keep old accounts open, and clear inaccurate items. If you want help, a free analysis is the fastest way to see what is holding you back.
